Using Digg to drive more traffic to your site

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I have been a user of Digg.com for the past year or so. I used digg it before mainly just to read the news and watch the same repetitive stories get posted over and over and over once again. Everything from Bush bashing, to Ron Paul jock riding and corny images that somehow made it to the first page.

I have had multiple user accounts banned as well as my IP address. How ever today I actually had some time to kill and decided to kill time with digg. I heard it before that the way to get more Digg’s is to get more friends. So today that is what I did. I went to the profile of everyone who’s article made the front page and invited them to be my friend.

Once a user is your friend they can see what you are digging and you can see what they are digging. You can also share your digg’s with them by selecting share beneath your article. Sharing an article is a great way to get more digg’s.

The problem here is that just because a user is your friend does not mean that they will be able to receive your shouts. For a user to receive your shouts you will need for them to come a mutual friend of yours.

Here is an idea that I came up with which appears to work very well.

Number 1 Look a user’s profile and become friends with the user’s fans. If a user is a fan of someone there is a pretty good change that they are looking to make friends.

Number 2 The more friends that you have on your list the more shouts that you are going to receive from your friends. Most of these shouts are going to be Digg request. Go ahead and Digg their article. After Digging respond back to your friend to tell them that you have Dugg their article and you would appreciate it back in return.

This was my first day using this strategy and after trying this with two articles I am pretty impressed and will continue to do this. Digg only allows you to have 1000 friends so be sure to week out inactive friends who went more then 3 months without being online.

Give this a try to and let me know what you think.

I totally agree with your method and thanks for the helpful advice. My friends are just over 120 and as the “friend” increases, my Diggs increase more that proportionately. Very good advice.

I agree with you that this method works, however it wastes a lot of your time and Digg traffic is not that great. I rather get organic traffic from search engines and niche related forums. :)
